How to download a YouTube video on a smartphone or tablet: The following is the procedure for uploading a YouTube video to your smartphone or tablet.

Note: Videos can consume a lot of storage space and quickly fill the memory of your smartphone or tablet.

Downloading a YouTube video on an Apple iPad and iPhone

Uploading a YouTube video on an iPad or iPhone is a pretty simple process. However, it takes a few more steps than downloading a video to a desktop or laptop. To download a YouTube video to your iPad or iPhone, follow the steps below.

  1. In the App Store, find the Documents by Readdle app, then download and install the app on your iPad or iPhone.
  2. When you have finished installing the Documents by Readdle application, open the application (the application icon will be labeled “Documents”).
  3. In the lower right corner of the application window, click the Safari browser icon (which looks like a compass).
  4. In the address bar at the top of the window, type fr.savefrom.net and press the Go button at the bottom right of the on-screen keyboard.
  5. Tap the Home button on the iPad or iPhone.
  6. Open the Safari browser and go to the youtube.com website or the YouTube app.
  7. Find the video you want to download, and on the video page, click the Share icon (an arrow pointing to the right).
  8. After the Share Video window opens, press and hold your YouTube video URL until a list of options appears. Select the Copy option to copy the URL of the video.
  9. Press the Home button again and open the Documents app once more.
  10. Tap with your finger in the Enter URL text box. Once the on-screen keyboard appears, press your finger in the “Enter URL” text box to display the Paste option. Tap the Paste option to paste the URL of the YouTube video into the text box. This action should display the YouTube video.
  11. A green download button is displayed below the video. Touch your finger on the drop-down list next to to select the MP4 video quality to which you want to download the video. Tap the preferred video format from the drop-down list.
  12. On the Save File screen that opens, enter a name for the video file to download, and then press the Done button.
  13. The video will be uploaded to the iPad or iPhone in the Documents application. Tap the Downloads icon at the bottom right of the screen (an arrow pointing down with a line below) to see the progress of the video download.
  14. When the video download is complete, tap the video file name to open the Documents screen. If the video begins to play, stop the video and tap Done to exit the video.
  15. Tap the Downloads folder icon to view the downloaded video file.
  16. Tap the ellipses icon at the bottom right of the video file and select Copy.
  17. On the Copy To screen, tap the Documents option.
  18. On the Documents screen, tap the Camera Roll option.
  19. On the Camera roll screen, tap Copy to “Camera roll” at the bottom. The video is now located and available in the Photos section of your iPhone or iPad.

Note: If you do not see the Camera roll option on the Documents screen (step 18 above) or the option is dimmed, you must allow the Documents application to access it. To grant permissions, go to the iPhone or iPad Settings utility. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings screen and tap the Documents app in the list. Tap the Photos option and select the Read & Write option to grant permission. The Camera Roll or Camera roll option should now be selected in the Documents application.

Tip: If you have problems copying the file or it was not copied, you can return to the Downloads section in step 15 and repeat the remaining steps to copy the video.

After following the steps above, the YouTube video will be downloaded and copied to your Camera Roll, where you can then view the video file and copy the file to a computer.

Unfortunately, we did not find any good solutions on the Google Play Store for you to download a YouTube video. Therefore, we recommend getting TubeMate from a third-party download site. Below are the steps to install TubeMate, a free app (with limited ads) for Android phones.

  1. On your phone, visit http://www.tubemate.net/ and visit one of the verified download sites.
  2. Click the Install Now button.
  3. Click OK to make the warning about the .apk file disappear.
  4. Click Open once downloaded.
  5. If you have never installed an application outside the Play Store, you will get a message “Instal blocked”. Click Settings and select the Unknown Sources check box, and then click OK.
  6. Click Install.
  7. When the application download is complete, open the application and, if you agree to the terms of use, click Accept.
  8. In the YouTube app, look for the video you want to download, then click the green down arrow on the TubeMate top bar.
  9. Select the quality of the video you want to download, or if you only want audio, click one of the audio options.
  10. Click the green download button once the video type is selected.
  11. If you are prompted to install the MP3 video converter, select the option to install the application, and then repeat the steps above to download the video again.
  12. Once the video is uploaded, it will appear in the program downloads, accessible by sliding your finger to the left.

Tip: To save space on your device, you can also move the video or audio file to your SD card.

If you have a Windows smartphone or tablet (Windows 8.1 or later), you can use the pre-installed Internet Explorer browser to download a YouTube video.

  1. Open the Internet Explorer browser.
  2. Visit the YouTube website and find the video you want to download.
  3. Tap the URL address bar and copy the URL of the YouTube video.
  4. Go to the savefrom.net website in the Internet Explorer browser.
  5. Paste the URL of the YouTube video into the text field at the top of the savefrom.net web page.
  6. Press the Download button on the webpage or press the Enter / Go button on the screen.
  7. The webpage may take some time to find the video and display the video download options. Once the options are displayed, select the video resolution and type you want to download.
  8. When Internet Explorer asks if you want to download a YouTube video or save it, tap the Save option.

9. Once the download is complete, the video file will be located in the / Videos folder on the smartphone or tablet.

Tip: To save space on your device, you can also move the video or audio file to your SD card.

On a Blackberry smartphone, we recommend using the UC Browser application to download a YouTube video. Follow the steps below to do this.

  1. Access the Blackberry App Store and download the UC Browser application.
  2. Find the YouTube video you’d like to download from the YouTube website.
  3. Tap the URL address bar and copy the URL of the YouTube video.
  4. Open the UC Browser application.
  5. Paste the URL of the YouTube video into the UC Browser application.
  6. Start the download process.
  7. Once the video download is complete, locate the video file on the Blackberry and replace the video file extension with “mp4”.

By using a media player application on the Blackberry, you can now watch the downloaded YouTube video.
