One of the great things about Apple is that their software is amazing, but there’s an element there that has a lot to do with the fact that it is software made for very specific hardware.
This gives Apple much more control over how their software behaves when installed on the appropriate hardware.
Windows can perform very well, when it’s installed on the appropriate hardware.

In working on pc’s and other hardware, one of the biggest things I see wrong with someone’s system when I get it is that it is generally filthy. Sometimes outside and inside, but almost always filthy on the inside.
This can lead to some major issues when it comes to a computer running well, and continuing to run well.

Now, I”m a big believer in backing up, and doing so on a fairly frequent basis. I use Time Machine. I realize that there are those out there who don’t like it, and who push other software instead, but I have to say that for the basic operation of backing up my documents, pictures, music, payment receipts, bills to customers, and so on, time machine works perfectly well.
I simply go in Read the rest of this entry »

Have you heard of torrents, but when your friend explained it, it was just too complicated sounding, or perhaps you just aren’t sure what that is even. Well, let me enlighten you to the actual simplicity that is the torrent.

I’m writing this post because I was recently the victim of Criminal Mischief (vandalism) to my car. Someone keyed my car. Specifically my car, and no other car in the lot. They did it once, and I thought well, that sucks, and within 12 hours they had done it again. Now I was a bit more angry about it. I decided since there were no security cameras in the lot, that I would set up my own with one of my old computers and a webcam.
I’m going to tell you just how easy this is….

I’m a major fan of backing up my data. Whether it’s personal, business, entertainment or otherwise. I particularly beileve that this is important when you are talking about money you’ve spent on said data. Such as DVD’s, CD’s, etc.
Unfortunately, the movie companies don’t see this as important…mainly because if I have a backup of my DVD, and the original dies I no longer have to come back to them and pay them for another copy of what I’ve already paid for the right to own. So I definitely like the groups that think more like me.

I have a JVC Everio Standard Def HDD camcorder that I have used for the past few years successfully on my Mac.
It took me a few tries to get it to work on my mac, but I was fortunate enough to find all the things necessary to do it. I used iMovie HD (’06) and cut together a great amount of video in the past few years with it. I just had to go through some extra steps to do it…but no more!

Everyone who knows me now, knows that I’m a fan of Mac and OS X, but that doesn’t make Windows or Linux Bad.
In fact, I”ve become a much larger fan of Windows recently. I must admit that Vista has come a long way, and I am now in beta testing for Windows 7. I like it, but the hardware I’m using is admittedly a bit old, so I’ve had a couple of issues, but they are issues so far that I’ve caused for myself by not having the right hardware according to the specs provided by Microsoft. Now, I metinoned in the previous post, that i now realize was really long…sorry about that…how it’s important to secure your data appropriately.
I also mentioned about online services, and how remembering all of those usernames and passwords can get troubling at times.
Let’s talk about how to make that a little bit easier.
